CODESYS is a hardware-independent development environment for programming industrial controllers according to the international standard IEC 61131-3. Developed by CODESYS GmbH (formerly 3S-Smart Software Solutions), it is used by hundreds of device manufacturers worldwide as the programming interface for their controllers.

Because CODESYS is not tied to a single hardware vendor, the same project and logic can be deployed across a broad range of platforms — from small embedded controllers and Raspberry Pi based PLCs to high-performance industrial PCs — giving engineers a consistent toolchain regardless of the underlying device.

CODESYS covers the entire automation workflow within a single environment: application programming, fieldbus configuration, motion control, visualization (HMI), and commissioning. This integrated approach removes the need to juggle separate tools for logic, communication and operator interfaces.
